change

thDo we really want CHANGE?

In light of the tragedy in recent days, I wonder if we are willing to take the steps to change things. It is so much easier to grief from a distance, to talk about change, to even send notes and cards to the people dealing with the unimaginable, but are we willing to take steps to ensure that this does not happen again?

I don’t know if gun control is the solution, if more security is the way to go, but I  do know, that every child longs to be known, longs to be accepted, longs to  be loved and cared for .

I understand the issues are so much bigger than I can imagine, but there are things that you and I can do today that will make a difference :

Mentor at the Boys and Girl Club , Tutor at the library,  watch and be amazed at the acrobatics of a teen on a skateboard, keep your marriage healthy so that your child will be in a  2 parent family,  become a CASA volunteer, work at the Special Olympics,…

It is so much easier to complain about the  tragedy  than to be part of the solution. We have a short-term memory ….. next week  Connecticut will be  forgotten, just list all the other  terrible things that are only remembered on anniversaries.

So,  if you really want change, then be the change! Do something that costs you something . Don’t  shy away from the challenge, because maybe the child you mentored will find  the   cure for cancer, maybe the little girl you inspire will become your president, maybe  she will be the  mom brave enough to  speak up when her  child is struggling.

Maybe you will never see the results, but your  input in a person’s life will make a difference!
